HEY, HEY, HEY, HEY!! ^^
Been a while since I've posted anything... ^^; Gomen. *bows* So anyway, here's the deal: I've had a sewing machine for a while now, but I have never used it. ^^;; I don't know how, for one thing (*doesn't wanna read all the instructions*), and for another, I don't really know how to make stuff with it. Everything I sew, I do by hand (plushies and stuff). But I really wanna learn how to use my sewing machine so I can start making my own clothes for cosplay and everyday wear. ^^ I know people who could teach me how to read a pattern and all that, I just have yet to request their help. Anyway, I've realized that my search for a decently priced gothloli dress is looking pretty hopeless, and I've searched for a long time. So I've pretty much come to the conclusion that if I wanna wear the clothes, I'm gonna have to make them myself. Right, so the point of all this is: what kind of material should I use for a dress? Everything I make, I make out of felt cuz it's cheap and easy to work with, but it's not the kind of material I would make an entire outfit out of. ^^; So since you guys probably have more clothing-making experience than I do, is there any type material that you would recommend? =3

Well, it honestly depends on the type of dress. But when searching for fabric, don't go with the insanely cheap type (unless you want it falling apart on you after a few uses). Normally you'd use two layers *is still trying to figure out how* of fabric.
If you want a light, airy, pretty dress, I'd get some sort of either silk or satin (but keep in mind it frays easily *still hasn't figured out how to stop fraying*) Hmm... After school I could give you more ideas, ^-^"

OK! ^^ Thanks for the tips~! I'll have to save up some money so I can get some good fabric *doesn't want dress falling apart while wearing it. o.o;;* Oooo, silk would be pretty~. X3 But I guess we'll have to work on that fraying issue... ^^; I look forward to hearing more of your ideas~! X3 *huggles*

Aack- sorry- I was busy yesterday *stabs self with rusty spork* Anyways, yeah, sorry 'bout that ^-^" Anyways- onto what you want to hear! Let's see... If you want a strong(ish) type of fabirc, you could get coutil or twill (though twill isn't as "heavy") Just to tell you how "strong" it is- coutil is what good quality corsets are made out of to help retain their shapes. Silk and satin (as I mentioned before) are excellent choices, and another fabric that frays rather easily is tulle (I think that's it- the stuff with holes in it that wedding veils are made out of), though I wouldn't imagine you'd MAKE something out of it, ^-^"- most people use tulle to line their garments. Cotton is good, but can get insanely hot insanely fast (I think that's cotton... ^-^") You probably shouldn't use Pleather for a garment as it's like leather (unless you were going for that style) And you probably also wouldn't use leather for a whole garment (unless, once again, it was necessary) Wool is pretty nice, but I'd only use it for heavy, winter-like clothing. (If ya know what I mean) Err... Yeah... Ask away since I KNOW after that *points above* you'll be a little confused. Once I find my stupid camera memory card, I'll make a few tutorials on making clothing/stuff so you can get a good idea of how to sew different fabrics and how to read patterns and such, so don't worry 'bout that. Is there any specific deadline you want to get started by/ended by or is it just one of those "when I have time" types? ...I'll shut up now, XD

No worries~! ^^ *huggles* I don't mind~! Woooow, that actually is quite helpful~! -^^- It's good to know what not to use! XD I wanna try a few different types of material on different designs so I can make a whole bunch of dresses, so this will be very useful when I go to pick things out. =3 *Gasp* Would you really do a tutorial for me?! Oh my gosh, that would be awesome!! X3 Thank you so much!! *glomps* Oh, I don't have a deadline; it's just one of those things I want to work on when I have time, so you don't have to rush or anything. =3

Em....Well, do you know how to make anything gothic lolita-style? Like a skirt maybe? =O Or maybe even just a basic skirt pattern would do. I could always embelish on it later. =3

No, but I was interested in it a while ago (before I forgot about it, ^-^") Hmm... I'll just post lots of tutorials, and later on I'll see if I can make a tutorial for some gothic lolita clothing, =P
